Bible Facts

The Bible is a library of books.  The Bible is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament or New Covenant Books.  The Bible contains 66 books,  39 books in the Old Testament and  27 books in the New Testament.  The Bible is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament or New Covenant Books

The Purpose of the Bible is - to tell all people Who God is and to show God's Character.  The Bible consistently tells the story God Who seeks to redeem a people, and of individuals who are drawn to the Lord God.  They  recognize His love for them and are saved from destruction because they put their trust in Him and surrender all to Him.  Throughout history, and through all generations, God has been consistent and persistent to reveal Himself to us, to draw us to Him in loving kindness, and to invite us to be in a permanent loving relationship with Himself for a joy that has no end.  

The Bible was written from - around 1450 BC to about 100AD, over a period of about 1,500 years. Moses was the first writer, writing the first five books, the Pentateuch.  John, the apostle, was the last writer writing after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Bible was written under - the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by more than 40 different authors. These writers were from all walks of life: kings, shepherds, farmers, priests, philosophers, tent-makers, physicians, and fishermen. The Bible was written in three different languages: Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek. The Bible attributes its unity in thought and purpose to the true Author, God Himself. (John 1)

The Bible has been translated into - 2,018 languages, with many more  translations for unwritten languages.

The Bible overwhelmingly the best-selling book in the world, and growing in popularity today.

Curious facts

The oldest man that ever lived was - Methuselah who lived to be 969 years old. Genesis 5:27

The two men in the Bible who never died were -

Enoch, who "walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." Genesis 5:22-24

Elijah, "suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind." II Kings 2:11.

God is not mentioned in the book of Esther, but His sovereignty and control are evident.
