Blame

Do not live in blame, guilt, or shame for anyone else's sins or wrong doing. You are only accountable for what you do and you are accountable to God.

God does not hold anyone else’s sins against you.

God only holds you responsible for your own thoughts, words, and actions.  This is a great release for anyone who feels burdened about others’ sins and wrongdoing.

Never confuse this with thinking that you should condone other people’s sins and wrong doing, for you should never agree with anyone else’s sins.  But in Ezekiel 18 God speaks that you are only accountable to God for your own actions.  After this study, you should feel free to be, yet you may be compelled to let others know that they are accountable to God for their own thoughts, words, and actions.

The whole world held accountable to God. Romans 3:19
Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment. Hebrews 9:27

God does not hold anyone else’s sins against you, only your own relationship with God are you held responsible for.

Ezekiel 18

The word of the LORD came to me: "What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:

This means that since the fathers do wrong things, the punishment falls on the children.  It is explained that since the fathers eat sour grapes, the children taste the bitterness that was due to their father to taste.

God does speak about sins passing onto the next generation.  Alcoholism, materialism, idols, and many more sins are carried down through behavior, mindsets, habits, etc.  But each child of every generation, and the fathers too, have the free will choice to choose to Not sin anymore.  God Himself provides that way out of sin through His Son Jesus Christ’s death on the cross, or Atonement.  God has provided away to break the generational curses and to set the captives of sin free.  Jesus Christ is that provision.  You no longer have to be a Slave of Sin, but one to Righteousness!  Praise be to God alone!

"As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.  For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son—both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.

God declares on Himself, a solemn oath or promise, that every person belongs to Him and is accountable to Him alone.  And if the person, or soul, sins, he or she will die the eternal death

God gives an example of a good, or righteous man -

"Suppose there is a righteous man who does what is just and right. He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor's wife or lie with a woman during her period. He does not oppress anyone, but returns what he took in pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked. He does not lend at usury or take excessive interest.  He withholds his hand from doing wrong and judges fairly between man and man. He follows my decrees and faithfully keeps my laws. That man is righteous; he will surely live, declares the Sovereign LORD.

God gives an example of this righteous man’s bad son -

"Suppose he has a violent son, who sheds blood or does any of these other things (though the father has done none of them): "He eats at the mountain shrines. He defiles his neighbor's wife. He oppresses the poor and needy. He commits robbery. He does not return what he took in pledge. He looks to the idols. He does detestable things. He lends at usury and takes excessive interest. Will such a man live? He will not! Because he has done all these detestable things, he will surely be put to death and his blood will be on his own head.

And God gives an example of this righteous man’s bad son’s good son -

"But suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father commits, and though he sees them, he does not do such things: "He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor's wife. He does not oppress anyone or require a pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked. He withholds his hand from sin and takes no usury or excessive interest. He keeps my laws and follows my decrees. He will not die for his father's sin; he will surely live.  But his father will die for his own sin, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and did what was wrong among his people.

God then supposes the argument that people make, that children share the guilt of her parents.  God says NO, they do not share the guilt of their parents if they choose to follow God for themselves, personally. -

"Yet you ask, 'Why does the son not share the guilt of his father?' Since the son has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees, he will surely live.  The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.

God says what is crucial for everyone to know -

"But if a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.  None of the offenses he has committed will be remembered against him. Because of the righteous things he has done, he will live.

God does NOT enjoy anyone going to hell. God IS pleased when the bad person turns to God and has eternal life.

Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

Will you turn away from the sins God is reminding you of?  Will you choose to make Jesus Christ the Atonement for your sins?  Will you pray to God to forgive you and make you His child?   Yes!

God continues telling us how a good person can turn bad, not repent and not be God’s child.

"But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die.

God reasons as if He is using our mind, that is, illogically.  People tend to think that if they do good, any good they do will justify the evil they do.  God says, NO.  God wants your heart, not to have you “look good” to others.  -

"Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Hear, O house of Israel: Is my way unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust?  If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin, he will die for it; because of the sin he has committed he will die.  But if a wicked man turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life.  Because he considers all the offenses he has committed and turns away from them, he will surely live; he will not die.  Yet the house of Israel says, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Are my ways unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?

God says elsewhere in His Bible - All a man's ways seem right to him, but the LORD weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2            But, O LORD Almighty, You who judge righteously and test the heart and mind, Jeremiah 11:20  "The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." 1Sam 16:7

So what should you do?       Glory in His holy Name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 1Chronicles 16:10                Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the LORD your God. 1Chronicles 22:19

God says, in essence, I will judge you, each one according to his or her ways, Turn away from all your offenses, and then your sin will NOT be your downfall.  Get a new Heart and a new Spirit.    Why should you choose to die?  For I, the Lord God, have no pleasure in the death of one who dies.  Turn and live!

"Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.  Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?  For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!

So what should you do?       Turn away from all your offenses, and Get a new Heart and a new Spirit.   Do not choose to die, do not choose to sin and die in your sins.  You will regret it when you are in eternal death, where there is no hope, and God will have no pleasure in it either.  So, Turn and live the only way anyone can – Turn to Jesus Christ.

Atonement   Prayer

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

You no longer have to be a slave of sin, but one to Righteousness!  Praise be to God alone!

Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. Heb 2:14,15

For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.  Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.

You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.

What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6
