Psalm 23

Psalm 23

This psalm was written by David, who was a shepherd boy.

God chose David His servant and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep He brought him to be the shepherd of His people Jacob, of Israel His inheritance. And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.  Psalm 78:70-72

David knew the dangers that the sheep had, and the need and necessity for a Good Shepherd in order for even one sheep to be safe.

The dangers were all around the sheep.  There were wolves to devour them, lions to claw them, the sounds of the prowling animals in the dark of night to frighten them, the cliffs of the terrain to fall off of, and beautiful fields on which to get lost by wandering.

But David said to Saul, "Your servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it.  Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine."  Saul said to David, "Go, and the LORD be with you."  1Sam 17:34-37

Psalm 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19

May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the Name of the God of Jacob protect you. May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.  Ps 20:1,4  Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

The LORD will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.  Isaiah 58:11

Read Psalm 1

Now Jesus came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.            When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?"  The Samaritan woman said to Him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)  Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and Who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water."   ...   Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."  ...  John 4:1-42

Blessed is the man whose ...  delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake You will be put to shame. Those who turn away from You will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the LORD, the spring of living water.  Jeremiah 17:13

Jesus replied, “Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."  John 7:38

For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their Shepherd; He will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." Revelation 7:17

Read Psalm 107

3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

He prays to God and finds favor with Him, he sees God's face and shouts for joy; he is restored by God to his righteous state. Job 33:26

Restore us, O God Almighty; make Your face shine upon us, that we may be saved. Psalm 80:7

Atonement

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Psalm 51:12

Psalm 51

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in Whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Col 2:2,3

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, through the darkest valley,  I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Rod and staff are correction tools. The rod stops and the staff pulls. God does both with His children. (Child of God)  Another word for “correction” is to teach, or discipline.  God teachers His own so that it will go well with them both here on earth and after their life here is through. (10 commandments, heaven, hell, righteous, sinful, salvation)

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18

Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever." Psalm 118:4

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. James 1:12

But if anyone obeys His Word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him: 1 John 2:5

What does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, Deuteronomy 10:12

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:8-10

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,  1 John 5:1-3

The LORD delights in those who fear Him, who put their Hope in His unfailing love. Psalm 147:11

To Him Who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father—to Him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. Revelation 1:6

Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.  Deuteronomy 8:5

"Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. Job 5:17

Blessed is the man You discipline, O LORD, the man You teach from your law; Psalm 94:12

You rebuke and discipline men for their sin; You consume their wealth like a moth— each man is but a breath. Psalm 39:11

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:7

My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent His rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those He loves, as a father  the son He delights in. Prov 3:11,12

He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. Proverbs 10:17    Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid. Proverbs 12:1

When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world. 1 Corinthians 11:32

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.  Heb 12

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Revelation 3:19

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

God prepares our days well when we follow Him. Just as if someone gave you directions to a large banquet hall filled with food and good friends, so God has prepared this for you (heaven).  And just as if that person has given you directions to arrive there safely, so must you follow those directions so you won’t get lost, get hurt, or worse, miss the wonderful banquet awaiting you.  God’s Word is just like a road map through life.  When you read it for yourself, personally, you will know God’s will for your life: His desires, warnings, and delights of you!

(Righteous, spirit filled, salvation, practical methods, promises,  )

God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him. Acts 10:38

Jesus stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it is written: "The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because Me has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."  Luke 4:14-21;  Isaiah 61:1,2

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.  1 John 2:20

As for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in Him. 1 John 2:27

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through Him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God Who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.  2Cor 1:20-22

Be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18                All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:4  Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: "Rulers and elders of the people! Acts 4:8

After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God boldly. Acts 4:31

And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. Acts 13:52

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

Goodness and Mercy come from the Lord God Almighty alone.  He alone is able to fully bestow these generously since that is His character. However, God is also just, so the person who trusts in His Son Jesus Christ’s Atonement for sin for themselves, personally, is free to receive God’s full Mercy and Goodness.  Without that acceptable sacrifice for our sins, we are not able to dwell in the house of the LORD forever.  (Heaven, commandments, righteous, sinful, big picture, hope, grace)
